When your own citations move, the index gives you something broader to compare them with. A shift appearing across the benchmark is worth investigating alongside a change on your own site. It cannot tell you what caused either one.
Follow changes in the sources assistants cite
The change record highlights substantial shifts in a source’s share of an assistant’s citations and compares them with the other assistants. Each entry shows when the change was first seen and whether it still holds. The accompanying chart lets you follow that source over time.
The record compares websites measured in both periods and requires evidence beyond a single brand or category. It helps narrow the changes worth looking at, but an entry is still a finding in our sample, not confirmation of an AI platform update.
Compare what assistants draw on
The source-mix cards divide the past week’s citations into editorial, community, reference, institutional, company websites and other sources. You can compare the mix across assistants without treating them as a single destination for your content. To identify creators and communities in your own tracked answers, use the Communities view.
Other cards show measures such as sources per answer and reported web searching. Some assistants expose more information than others. The page identifies missing or insufficient data rather than presenting it as zero.
Our benchmark covers buying questions in categories where people compare options. Its source mix is context for those questions, not a profile of the whole web or your own site. The chart and source-mix shares are averaged across measured websites; that average can still move when the set of websites changes.
